The Bioethics Program is
pleased to Join the Medical Faculty of the University of Vilnius, in
co-sponsoring and co-hosting the
8th Annual Global Forum in Research Ethics
July 27-29, 2007 - Vilnius, Lithuania.
The Global Forum on Bioethics in Research (GFBR)
provides a venue for delegates from developing and developed countries to debate
the ethical issues surrounding international collaborative research sponsored
by industrialized countries and carried out in developing countries. The
Forum’s funding and non-funding partners include: the US National Institutes of
Health, the UK Medical Research Council, the Wellcome Trust, the World Health
Organisation, the Rockefeller Foundation, the US Centers for Disease Control,
the Council on Health Research for Development, the Pan-American Health
Organisation, INSERM, the South African Medical Research Council, the Aga Khan
University and other international agencies. The first Global Forum was held in
1999, and previous Forums have focused on some of the key issues in
international collaborative research: the difficulties in creating ethical guidelines
and review processes in developing countries; the standard of care to be
provided during clinical trials; traditional medicines; genomics and global
health; benefit sharing and intellectual property; and culture and informed
consent. The 8th Annual Global Forum will focus on challenges to creating a
research ethics infrastructure in the developing world and transition
societies. For detailed information and an application click here - www.researchethicseurope.net-globalforum >
