The
Masters Project
Every student in The Bioethics Program is required to complete an individualized Masters project
and to present it to their fellow students at the Capstone.
Each student receives personal supervision from a faculty member who directs
their project. Students working on projects also take a special two-term course
in which they discuss their projects with each other and with a Masters project coordination.
Projects may take many forms. Some may take the form of a plan, a policy initiative,
or a proposal for reform, e.g. “Creating an Ethics Consultation Service
for a Health Care Institution.” A project may also take the form of
a survey or some other type of empirical research; e.g., “A Survey on the
Practice in Hospitals in New York State of Withdrawal of Life-Sustaining Treatments
for Incapacitated Patients without Health Care Proxies.” Finally,
they may take the form of a traditional thesis on such subjects as “To
the Highest Bidder: The Market in Human Eggs”. |
